The rumoured feud between the Beckham family and son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz has been rumbling for some time.
But it reached boiling point last week when the pair of them were nowhere to be seen at any of David’s multiple 50th birthday celebrations. Now insiders tell Closer that the apparent fallout is putting a strain on Victoria and David’s marriage.
Victoria, 50, is said to be devastated that ‘Brooklyn chose his wife over her’, and David ‘was gutted not to have all his children with him for his birthday’, but the hurt goes even deeper than that, as our source says, ‘The undercurrent of this all is starting to have a negative impact on Victoria and David’s marriage. David lays blame at Victoria’s feet for badly managed family affairs that shouldn’t have ever got to this point. He feels she could have smoothed things over, instead, she added fuel. David just wishes they could turn back the clock. Cracks appeared that should have been addressed well before now.’
Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola, 30, were missing from David’s birthday dinner in London’s trendy Notting Hill, as well as the recent family trip to France and the big birthday party the Beckhams held in their Cotswolds home, while their other children, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13, were all pictured in photos.
Brooklyn even skipped out on a boys’ fishing trip that David took with Romeo and Cruz, even though he had flown over to the UK from his LA marital home. The trip to Scotland was planned six months prior and a source shares, ‘Brooklyn was asked to join them ages ago. Then he came to London in time, but he didn’t go.’
The reported reason for the family feud is Romeo’s new girlfriend, Kim Turnbull – with whom Brooklyn is said to have had a brief romance in the past. Brooklyn supposedly has an issue not only with Romeo because he’s struck-up a relationship with Kim – but also with his mum, Victoria.
Our source says, ‘Victoria denies that she has waded into a favouritism war, but Nicola thinks she’s clearly favouring Romeo’s girlfriend, Kim, over her. It’s felt she’s created a storm in a tea cup that has turned into a full-blown cyclone.’
But there are more layers to the Beckham bust-up, and it goes back to Nicola and Brooklyn’s 2022 wedding. There was said to be no communication with Victoria over the wedding planning, and ‘the top table was all Peltz, and it really felt as though the Beckhams were not at the forefront’, a source said.
Nicola was also set to wear a wedding dress designed by Victoria’s VB fashion brand, but changed to a Valentino number at the last minute. Our insider spills, ‘The whole family knows that Nicola put their mother’s nose out of joint. Some people just don’t mix – Victoria and Nicola for starters – but rather than embrace, they have drifted. Victoria won’t give in to her demands.’ They add, ‘Brooklyn is finding this all too toxic. He has told pals he won’t be part of any family gatherings until they show Nicola the respect she deserves – this is his wife and he will stand by her, and that message is directly aimed at his mother.’
While neither Nicola nor any of the Beckhams have referenced any rift in public, their social media activity has spoken volumes. Brooklyn didn’t publicly wish his mum a happy birthday last month, and the Beckhams didn’t post wishes for Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding anniversary in the same month. It’s particularly devastating for the mum-of-four, who was famously super-close to Brooklyn in his teens, and he was often pictured accompanying her to fashion shows and launches.
Victoria is said to be stunned by the latest twist in the feud as she thought they’d moved on from their issues. Last year, Nicola had even congratulated Victoria on her fashion show, and they were photographed together at the premiere of Lola, which Nicola wrote, directed and starred in. Nicola wore a custom VB piece and Victoria shared a photo saying, ‘Nicola Ann Peltz Beckham we could not be more proud of you!’
Our source says, ‘Emotions are running high. Victoria wants peace, but her olive branch has fallen on deaf ears and Brooklyn’s not communicating with any of them.’
Now it looks like it’s fallen upon David to smooth things over. During the father-and-son fishing trip David went on with Romeo and Cruz, he posted a photo with his two sons on Instagram, adding, ‘You were missed Brooklyn Peltz Beckham.’ David is said to desperately want to heal the rift, while Victoria is willing to do anything to keep the peace in her family and her relationship.
Our source shares, ‘Victoria and David fear that the rift with Nicola will destroy their family for good if it’s not mended soon. David’s planning to fly to Brooklyn in an attempt to start peace talks, while Victoria’s focused on ensuring her marriage isn’t torn apart by the aftershock from this family row.’
